Corneal Transplant

For Advanced Corneal Disease

Overview

Eyes with severe corneal scarring or irregularity secondary to trauma, infection, hereditary disease, or other causes may be eligible for corneal transplantation. As a cornea specialist, Dr. Zhu offers both full-thickness and partial-thickness cornea transplants.

Types of Corneal Transplant

Penetrating Keratoplasty (PKP) — Full-Thickness

A full thickness transplant where the entire diseased cornea is removed and replaced with a donor cornea.

Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK / DMEK / DALK) — Partial-Thickness

A partial thickness transplant where only the diseased layers of the cornea are removed and replaced. This results in faster recovery, better quality vision, and lower risk of transplant rejection. Dr. Zhu will discuss all options with you to determine which treatment is best.
